Memorial Day Ceremony

Join us to honor those who gave everything in service to our country.

The City of Walnut Creek invites the community to its annual Memorial Day Commemoration, hosted by Mayor Kevin Wilk with a keynote address by Ret. Army Lt. Col. Davis. The Walnut Creek Concert Band will perform throughout the ceremony, which concludes at the Veterans Memorial outside City Hall, where Taps will be played and flags lowered to half-staff. The event is free and open to all.

Note: N. Broadway will be closed to traffic between Civic Drive and Lincoln Avenue during the ceremony.

Keynote Address

(Ret.) Lieutenant Colonel Karl Davis

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Davis enjoyed serving for many years in the Army of the United States, in Active, Reserve, Guard, and Individual Mobilization Augment assignments. He had the privilege to serve on four contents as an Engineer Officer, and on four as a Psychological Operations Officer.

He was fortunate enough to spend seventeen of his last nineteen years of service at US Army Special Operations Command and in its subordinate units. Post-retirement from the Army, Mr Davis has worked on oil & gas projects for Chevron (on three continents!), was a Construction Manager on San Francisco's Transbay Transit Terminal, and has facilitated the construction and renovation of schools in Hayward, Oakland, San Pablo, and Mt. Diablo District.

The ceremony will conclude with a procession to the Veterans Memorial in front of City Hall with a moment of silence, the playing of Taps, and the lowering of the flag to half-staff.
