Downtown Trolley Route Update Coming March 29
The City of Walnut Creek is updating the free Downtown Trolley (Route 4) route beginning Sunday, March 29, bringing a more direct and efficient loop through the heart of downtown.
A More Direct Route
The updated route eliminates the back-and-forth path through downtown in favor of a streamlined loop along Locust St. and Main St., reducing travel times between downtown stops and BART.
New and Relocated Bus Stops
Several new stops will be added as part of the change. These new stops include second stops at Main St. & Pringle Ave. and Main St. & Arroyo going south to complement their northbound counterparts across the street and a new northbound stop at Main St. & Olympic Blvd next to Broadway Plaza. Signage at new locations will be installed in advance and uncovered when the route goes live on March 29.
Two existing stops will also be relocated: the stop at Mt. Diablo & Olympic moves in front of the movie theater, and the Locust & Botelho stop moves across the street to the large parking lot on Botelho. Both will be fully operational on March 29.
Stops Being Removed
The following stops will be decommissioned on March 29: Main & Newell, Locust St. (in front of Peet's), Broadway & Newell, and Broadway & Mt. Diablo. Physical signage and shelters will be removed as quickly as possible to minimize confusion. The California & Lacassie stop will remain active for other bus routes but will no longer serve the Downtown Trolley.
All other existing Downtown Trolley stops remain unchanged, and no other bus routes are affected by this update.
