NEWS RELEASE: Nomination Papers for Walnut Creek City Council and City Treasurer Available July 13, 2026
Filing period opens soon for local offices on the November 3, 2026, ballot

Individuals interested in running for Walnut Creek City Council or City Treasurer in the November 3, 2026, statewide general election may obtain nomination papers and candidate filing information beginning Monday, July 13, 2026, from the City of Walnut Creek’s City Clerk’s Office at 1666 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek.
Nomination papers must be filed with the City Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026. In the event an incumbent does not file for office, the nomination period will be extended to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
Nomination papers are issued by appointment through the City Clerk’s Office. Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance and typically take one hour to review the information with the City Clerk. Appointments for the July 13–August 7 nomination period are now being scheduled. To schedule an appointment, contact the City Clerk’s Office at (925) 943-5819.
To be eligible to run for City Council or City Treasurer, a candidate must be at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States, and a resident and registered voter within the City of Walnut Creek.
The November 3 ballot includes two Walnut Creek City Council seats. The seats are currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Matt Francois, who is completing his second term, and Councilmember Cindy Silva, who is completing her fifth term. City Councilmembers serve four-year terms. The Mayor is selected annually by and from among the members of the City Council and is not directly elected.
The office of City Treasurer, currently held by Ron Cassano, will also appear on the November ballot. Mr. Cassano is completing his eighth term, comprising 30 years of service to the community.
