Building Permits

ATTENTION!

Holiday Closure & Permit Processing Notice

The City of Walnut Creek will be closed December 24, 2025 through January 2, 2026 for City holidays and closure days. During this time, the permit portal will remain open 24/7, but staff review and processing times will be delayed. Please expect 5–7 business days of additional processing time after the New Year. To ensure your permit is processed before the closure, please submit no later than December 15, 2025.

Building Code Update

Beginning January 1, 2026, all building permit applications must comply with the 2025 Building Code. Applications submitted by 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2025 will still be accepted under the 2022 Building Code.

Happy Holidays From the Permit Center!

The City of Walnut Creek has fully committed to an all-online permitting system – all permit types shall be applied for via our Online Permit Portal. We are no longer accepting paper or emailed permit applications. This electronic platform helps to streamline the permitting process, allows for customer transparency with permit activity, and provides online permit services.

The online portal is not mobile device friendly - it works best on a desktop or a laptop. We recommend using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge to apply for your permit.
