Long-range planning helps us plan for the future through policies that help us direct and manage growth. Walnut Creek has several long-range plans, and the main and most comprehensive one is the General Plan. The City also has specific plans which focus on smaller geographic areas. All long range plans are developed with robust community involvement and usually take several years to develop.
General Plan
A General Plan is a state-mandated policy document that guides a City’s future. It provides a framework for how to manage growth, delivers public services and facilities, and protects and enhances the community. State law requires cities to regularly update their General Plans to reflect changing needs and priorities.
Specific plans
Specific plans guide development for geographic areas of the City. The plans include development standards and policies consistent with the General Plan, but tailored to designated areas.
