Measure A

On March 12, 1985, City of Walnut Creek voters passed Measure A (Building Heights Freeze Initiative) which limited the maximum allowable heights in the City. Measure A accomplished this by setting the maximum allowable Zoning District heights equal to the maximum heights as they existed in the Zoning Ordinance at time of Measure A Adoption. The maximum allowable height under Measure A is 6 stories/89 feet. Note: While current zoning heights cannot exceed what was allowed under Measure A, they can and are sometimes set at a level below what was allowed under Measure A. In order to raise the height of an area, approval of the electorate must first be gained. For maximum allowable heights currently set by the Zoning Ordinance, refer to the City's Zoning Maps.
