About
The Neighborhood Streets Program is run by the Walnut Creek Traffic Engineering Division to address traffic calming on residential streets. It currently consists of two programs; Pace Car Pledge and Yard Signs. The goal of the Neighborhood Streets Program is to improve quality of life and mobility for all. Cooperation from residents is essential to finding a sustainable way to improve traffic safety.
Safe Travelers Pledge
The Safe Travelers Pledge, formerly known as the Pace Car Pledge, encourages motorists to abide by existing laws and is part of a larger effort towards a singular vision: zero traffic fatalities and zero severe injuries by the year 2035.
Everyone who takes the pledge will receive a newsletter from the City highlighting include safety tips, community updates, City project updates, new laws, and grant awards. Learn more about taking the pledge at walnut-creek.org/pacecar.
Yard Signs
Walnut Creek residents can request and display yard signs to encourage drivers to slow down and obey the speed limit. Yard signs messages include “20 is Plenty” and “Slow Down”. Residents are encouraged to routinely reposition signs/remove or trade with neighbors to show an active presence. Yard signs are available upon request but subject to availability. Limit 1 per household. To request, send an email to dutytraffic@walnut-creek.org or call (925) 943-5899 x7582. Yard signs must be placed on private property; do not affix signs to any street lights, traffic signals, sign poles, or place in City property.
