About
This program allows Walnut Creek communities to work together with City staff to help keep neighborhood streets safe. Pledging to follow the rules of the road means Safe Travelers will set an example for the neighborhood. Becoming a Safe Traveler will also give you access to our newsletter, with updates about traffic safety and other transportation projects around the city. The higher the participation in a given neighborhood, the safer its streets can be. While the program is primarily intended for residents of Walnut Creek, it is open to everyone.
Goal
The Safe Travelers program is part of a larger effort towards a singular vision: zero traffic fatalities and zero severe injuries by the year 2035. The City of Walnut Creek adopted the Local Roadway Safety Plan: A path to Vision Zero (2023) to comprehensively analyze and plan a path towards Vision Zero. The residents, visitors, and staff of Walnut Creek are a crucial part of reaching this milestone, and the Safe Travelers Pledge exists to help inform and coordinate every participant who wants to help make a difference in keeping our streets safe.
Periodically, the Walnut Creek Traffic Engineering team sends out a newsletter. Each newsletter will include safety tips, community updates, City project updates, new laws, and grant awards.
