Craig DeVinny

Craig DeVinney was born and raised in Oakland and attended Bishop O’Dowd High School class of 1992. He obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1996, with Academic Distinction in the field of Biopsychology. He attended USC/Keck School of Medicine graduating with Highest Academic Distinction in 2001 and stayed in Los Angeles to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at LA County Hospital in 2005. He married Jennifer, who also attended Bishop O’Dowd and UCSB, in 2001 and shortly after the birth of their first son, moved to Walnut Creek to be closer to their families. He has been serving the community at John Muir Walnut Creek Emergency Department and living in Walnut Creek since 2006.

Craig says service and leadership have always inspired him.  He was team captain and MVP of both his high school and college lacrosse teams. He has served as medical faculty at the LAC/USC Emergency Department, residency director for the ER at Northbay Hospital and chair of the disaster preparedness committee at John Muir Hospital Walnut Creek. While raising his three boys and working full time, he also coached them in soccer, basketball and lacrosse.

In his thirties he began competing in triathlons, completing a full ironman triathlon in 2010, 25k run up Mt. Diablo and Escape from Alcatraz swim the following year.

Craig and his wife are long time contributors and supporters of WCEF and Sustainable Contra Costa. He is a member of American College of Emergency Physicians, Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, and member of the Walnut Creek Rotary Club.

He says the same passion to help people that led him to a career in Emergency Medicine has now called him to public service. Craig adds that Walnut Creek is an incredible city, and he is grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve the community in his first term on the City Council.
